WD Ceramic Disc Tone Capacitor .022uF
5.0
Review By Satchmoeddie
Tested electrically and sonically.
These little disc caps were in all the Gibson guitars in the 1970s. They may not be as warm sounding as film in oil or paper in oil, but the differences are subtle. I use an ESI LCR bridge to test capacitors. A lower Q generally results in a warmer tone, but not always. Polystyrene caps can sound nasal, but these disc caps are ceramic. Polystyrene caps are sold as hi fi audio caps. It's a guitar, not a stereo! I also avoid polypropylene caps in favor of polyester caps (Mallory 150s) or 225 Orange drops, or paper in oil caps. These disc caps are fine too. Stock caps for Gibson from the late 1960s through the 1980s and on. I played the frets off my 1977 Les Paul using these caps. I played my V2 with these caps too. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. When the pots finally wore out, I put these caps in the wiring new harnesses.
