Kent Armstrong Vintage Series Junior Dogear P-90 Pickup
Review By Jin J. X
I bought these from the Reverb site January 2017. I had an idea to take a modern archtop and turn it into an "olde timey" T-Bone Walker/Rockabilly axe. I bought a couple of these in cream and a tech friend pulled out the stock humbuckers of an Ibanez AF85 and put these in. Using spacers it's a perfect fit. Initially I liked the guitar for recording though live had a hard time getting the solid highs for live work. So the unfortunately the guitar sat.
Then someone recommended doing an Alnico 2 mod for these. It takes two magnets per pickup so that's four in all. In the neck position these things came alive. The bridge may end up getting the alnico Vs back though being that I mostly use the neck and neck/middle this was perfect. Now I play this guitar everyday. These are wonderful pickups stock though if you want more highs an alnico II or III mod may be an inexpensive way to get what you want though these are killer out of the package.
